Voodoo is the landmark 2000 album from D'Angelo, one of the most celebrated and influential soul records ever made. Recorded between 1998 and 1999 at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, Voodoo brought together an extraordinary ensemble of musicians from the Soulquarians collective, including Pino Palladino, Charlie Hunter, James Poyser, and producer Russ Elevado. D'Angelo produced the majority of the record himself, crafting a loose, groove-anchored funk sound that deliberately broke from the polished song structures of his debut, Brown Sugar.
Lyrically, Voodoo explores spirituality, love, sexuality, personal growth, and fatherhood, a deeply human document dressed in layers of hypnotic rhythm. The album won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and remains a touchstone of neo-soul and Black music history.
This vinyl LP repressing presents Voodoo in an expanded gatefold tip-on jacket with new liner notes by music scholar Jason King, featuring original interviews with key collaborators from the sessions.
